A Los Angeles based Full Spectrum Doula that’s passionate about helping you and your family get the birth you want and transition to your life after baby.
Welcome to this space and thank you for taking the time to visit my page.
You might be wondering “who is Shashie?” Shashie is me; it is the name I gave myself as a child because I couldn’t pronounce Sharlene. It’s what my family and close friends call me, and if you become my client you are welcome to call me that as well.
Every birth and every family is so unique and deserves the space and respect to navigate that journey. Educating yourself, finding the best people to be apart of your birthing team, and uncovering your births hopes and dreams are so important in helping you achieve your ideal birth.
This is your birth and I am here to help you navigate it. As a Full spectrum doula I support people through the entire spectrum of reproduction, including fertility, pregnancy, loss, abortion, birth, and postpartum. I can provide resources and referrals for whatever you need throughout your time trying to conceive, throughout pregnancy, and especially postpartum, offering mental, physical, and emotional support during this incredible transition. I strive to create a positive, non-judgmental, and inclusive experience for every birthing environment I am welcomed into.
Birth work for me is about honoring women and birthing people’s bodies, transforming our health care systems, creating safe and connected communities, building movements for reproductive justice, and educating families on their rights.
Bringing a life into this world is one of the most powerful things you will do, and the right doula ensures you have all you need to be successful.
I look forward to meeting you and being a part of this transformative experience for you and your family.
I’m here to help you discover your inner strength so you can feel :
STRONGER CALMER INFORMED
BALANCED CONFIDENT EMPOWERED
SAFE and SUPPORTED
It has been shown time and time again that doula care improves health outcomes for parent and baby, and helps bridge the gap in maternity care, something we as birth workers are trying to improve one birth at a time!
Research has found that overall, continuous support during birth leads to a:
25% decrease in the risk of Cesarean; the largest effect was seen with a doula (39% decrease)*
8% increase in the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth; the largest effect was seen with a doula (15% increase)*
10% decrease in the use of any medications for pain relief; the type of person providing continuous support did not make a difference
Shorter labors by 41 minutes on average; there is no data on if the type of person providing continuous support makes a difference
38% decrease in the baby’s risk of a low five-minute Apgar score; there is no data on if the type of person providing continuous support makes a difference
31% decrease in the risk of being dissatisfied with the birth experience; this risk was reduced with continuous support provided by a doula or someone in their social network (family or friend), but not hospital staff
